Michael Short
PhD (candidate), MHSc, BHSc
Michael graduated from Ontario Tech University (OTU), formerly known as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) in 2017. In his 4th year at UOIT, Michael learned of the importance of the application of research to modern day practice and returned to OTU to complete a Master's in Health Sciences where he studied the association between physical activity, sedentary behaviour and physical activity in post-secondary students. After defending his thesis and graduating in January 2020,Michael has returned to OTU to pursue a Doctorate of Health Sciences (PhD) and rounding out his research abilities by focusing on qualitative research. He will be studying the lived experiences of homeless female Canadian Veterans. Michael plans to utilize his academic training to one day conduct mixed-method research. He has also spent five years at Ryerson studying mechanical and biomedical engineering where he learned the importance of applying biomechanics and physics to sport.

After being diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2011, Michael spent a few years battling the disease before discovering the benefits of physical activity and sport on his disease activity. After being declared in remission in early 2017, Michael has since vowed on using his knowledge and experience to help others who may be struggling with disease.

While initially taking time off from athletic pursuits to focus on his health, Michael has returned to sport participation and athletic endeavours. Michael holds a blue belt in jiu jitsu, has raced go-karts, played airsoft and has played competitive soccer and football.
